Their first house. Pen drawing commission

I was contacted recently to do a drawing of a married couple in front of their house they just bought.
The husband wanted to surprise his wife for her birthday.

I definitely took some liberties, but basically he gave me pictures of the house, and themselves. From there he said just make it look like a horror house. They are really into halloween... so I definitely had some fun!

I first sent him how they would both look. I always send progress shots to make sure we are on the same page. Because if he really didn't like it at this stage, I could have easily started over.

After drawing a big portion of the house, I realized this was taking a lot longer than expected. (This always happens to me, I'm really bad at estimating how many hours a drawing will take me). I started getting a but nutty with the garage door. Adding teeth and what not. I really wanted to make sure he was cool with the liberties I was taking. He was.

I decided to add a hole in their rooftop. Exploding with my signature faces that I love to do. Client loved it.

I just finished last night, and the client is extremely happy. I definitely undercharged for this drawing, but hey... I'll learn one day.

How cool! I'm glad that the client is happy. You have a very unique style and I'm sure you'll get very popular one day.

I like the creepiness of this drawing. You even added stitches and monster teeth to the dogs :) And not only dogs.. the garage door has teeth! :D I hope it's not going to bite off the wheels anytime they drive through :D

And so many faces coming out of that hole. I wonder what they'll do when it will start raining, lol.

Do they know that there are zombies waiting inside of the house? Or maybe these are just their visitors for the housewarming party :) 

I'm sure that once you'll learn how to value your work. It's important to get a 'name' and then you'll see that you will be able to charge much more :)

When I read "he wanted to surprise his wife" I was like, That's one hell of a creepy surprise! Well, it turns out that they both love creepy stuff and to make that even fun for you, you too seem to have somewhat of a creep style...lol!

On a first look, I thought those doodles above the house were trees, then, I realized that they are really creepy looking doodles sprouting (erupting?) From the roof! It definitely took that horror feel of the drawing up a notch!

You did give a lot of attention to details with this drawing, and that's cool! I mean, even the dogs are subtly creepy...

I am glad he loved it, I believe his wife will get pleasantly surprised too!
