It is erroneously believed that the Generalife (and Heneralife is pronounced fortunately for us!) Is the complex of gardens and patios of the Alhambra and the saying that "experience teaches" was never so true: looking at the Generalife it appears majestic, suspended perched but strongly independent with thick vegetation to embrace it.
Less than a kilometer separates the fortress, center of Andalusian life, from this reserved and restorative space for the Nazari Kings, it shows us the path of a majestic avenue of
cypresses and rose gardens carefully cared for by groups of kids ... so much so that many of us visitors have also photographed them together with flowers!
Stop to smell the resin of conifers mixed with the intense scent of roses ...

Si crede erroneamente che il Generalife(e si pronuncia Heneralife per fortuna nostra!)sia il complesso di giardini e patii dell'Alhambra e mai fu tanto veritiero il detto che" l'esperienza insegna";guardando il Generalife ci appare maestoso,sospeso e arroccato ma fortemente indipendente con una folta vegetazione ad abbracciarlo.
Meno di un kilometro separa la fortezza,centro della vita andalusa,da questo spazio riservato e ristoratore per i Re Nazari;ci indica il percorso proprio un maestoso viale di cipressi e giardini di rose attentamente curati da gruppi di ragazzi...a tal punto che molti di noi visitatori hanno fotografato anche loro insieme ai fiori!
Soffermatevi a sentire l'odore della resina delle conifere misto al profumo intenso delle rose…

For Arab culture the garden ("Rawdah" in classical Arabic) had to represent Paradise on Earth so that the same word takes on the meaning of garden rather than cemetery. These wonderful gardens had to satisfy the senses of the sultans and make them worthy in the eyes of Allah . The feeling of being guided in orderly geometric shapes, intoxicated by the color and scent of flowers, today as then this reserved and collected space brings us into contact with our internal dimension, where thoughts flow marked by the movement of water.
This vital element, called by the Nasrids the voice of Allah, and abundant in the eastern part of the hill, was skillfully made to flow in canalization systems so as to irrigate the thick vegetation and humidify the inner patios of the gardens. I was totally relaxed.

Per cultura araba il giardino("Rawdah" nell'Arabo classico)doveva rappresentare il Paradiso sulla Terra tanto che la stessa parola assume il significato di giardino che di cimitero .Questi meravigliosi giardini dovevano appagare i sensi dei sultani e renderli meritevoli agli occhi di Allah. La sensazione di essere guidati in forme geometriche ordinate,inebriati dal colore e dal profumo dei fiori;oggi come allora questo spazio riservato e raccolto ci porta a contatto con la nostra dimensione interna,dove i pensieri fluiscono scanditi dal movimento dell'acqua.
Questo elemento vitale,chiamato dai Nasridi la voce di Allah,e abbondante nella parte est del colle, fu abilmente fatto fluire in sistemi di canalizzazione cosi da poter irrigare la folta vegetazione e umidificare i patii interni dei giardini.

This is the central patio of the Palace, characterized by a long central fountain, at the bottom of which is the Sala Regia, as well as allowing us with smartphone and reflex to take amazing photos, fortunately it has its most important utility: channeling through a sophisticated water system, the water coming from the Darro river up to the courtyards and orchards.

Questo è il patio centrale del Palazzo, contraddistinto da una lunga fontana centrale,in fondo alla quale si trova la Sala Regia;oltre a permettere a noi con smartphone e reflex di fare foto sorprendenti,per fortuna ha una sua più importante utilità:convogliare attraverso un sofisticato sistema idrico,l' acqua proveniente dal fiume Darro fino ai cortili e frutteti.

Legend has it that this cypress was witness to the amorous encounters of Morayma, wife of King Boabdil, with a knight of the tribe of the Abencerrajes, hearing the news of the betrayal but unaware of who the man was, the last Moor king decided to organize a feast and decapitated all the knights.Today, in the bottom of the fountain of the Sala degli Abencerrajes, you can notice (oxide) spots that seem to remember the vengeance consumed.
What made this patio unique in my eyes is the sense of welcome and experience, as if today the Sultana opened the doors of her residence to offer us refreshment between fountains and the scent of Moorish myrtle.

Narra la leggenda che questo cipresso fu testimone degli incontri amorosi di Morayma,sposa del re Boabdil, con un cavaliere della tribù degli Abencerrajes;Appresa la notizia del tradimento ma ignaro di chi fosse l'uomo,l'ultimo re moro decise di organizzare una festa e fece decapitare tutti i cavalieri.Ad oggi,nel fondo della fontana della Sala degli Abencerrajes,si possono notare macchie(di ossido) che sembrano ricordare la vendetta consumata.
Ciò che ha reso unico ai miei occhi questo patio è il senso di accoglienza e di vissuto,come se ad oggi la Sultana ci aprisse le porte della sua residenza per offrirci ristoro tra fontane e il profumo di mirto moresco.

Do you know the amazement of when instinct acts before thought?
Exactly ... I go up a steep staircase and I realize that the handrails are actually small channels where the water flows fresh ... I am already with my hands inside appreciating in tangible way the ingenuity of the builder!
Called the water stairway, it connects the Palace to the highest point of the Cerro del Sol, where the Miradors, or vantage points, allow you to admire the wonderful city of Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Avete presente lo stupore di quando l'istinto agisce prima del pensiero?
Appunto...Salgo una ripida scalinata e mi accorgo che i corrimano sono in realtà canaletti dove l'acqua scorre fresca...Sono già con le mani dentro apprezzando in maniera tangibile l'ingegno del costruttore!
Chiamata la scalinata dell'acqua collega il Palazzo al punto più alto del Cerro del Sol;qui i Mirador, ovvero punti panoramici, permettono di ammirare la meravigliosa città di Granada e le montagne della Sierra Nevada.

Although among the people, walking among the courtyards allowed us to listen to a surreal silence, interrupted only by the different flow of water in the canals or by the very gushing of the fountains. Looking at the Generalife we note how the choice of every natural and architectural element is aimed at the interiority and the relationship with God, the choice of conifers, perennial trees that recall immortality and the same cypresses that rise towards the sky as if to look for a nearness. And above all water ... this element that in psychology is associated with the emotions and life that in this culture knew how to make flow and appreciate.
We leave the city in the city satiated in our senses and perhaps more at peace with ourselves.

Seppur in mezzo alla gente,camminare tra i cortili ci ha permesso di ascoltare un silenzio surreale,interrotto solo dal fluire diverso dell'acqua nei canali o dallo sgorgare stesso delle fontane.Osservando il Generalife si nota come la scelta di ogni elemento naturale e architettonico sia volto all'interioritá e al rapporto con Dio;la scelta delle conifere,alberi perenni che richiamano l'immortalità e gli stessi cipressi che s'innalzano verso il cielo quasi a cercare una vicinanza.E soprattutto l'acqua...questo elemento che in psicologia viene associato alle emozioni e alla vita che in questa cultura sapevano far fluire e apprezzare.
Usciamo "dalla città nella città" sazi nei nostri sensi e forse più in pace con noi stessi.
