IOTA in everyday life: The app trive.park pays parking garage machines with IOTA. Behind the project is the German software start-up trive.me, which in turn is part of the EDAG Group. EDAG and trive.me see the groundbreaking for future mobility services in IOTA's Tangle integration.
A new parking garage app uses IOTA to enable communication between the smartphone and the barrier. "Trive.park" - the name of the application created by the German software company trive.me - lets its users locate, reserve and pay for parking. Tangle, the underlying distributed ledger technology, forms the basis for machine-to-machine communication between the trive.park app and the barrier system of a car park. Payment processing between the machines takes place in IOTA, while users of the app pay by credit card.
A press release from EDAG Engineering, the parent company of trive.me, shows that the Group has a large stake in IOTA and its Tangle:
In the background, payment processing takes place via the crypto currency IOTA, which is considered one of the most promising technologies in the field of micropayments. IOTA is designed for automated communication and payments between IoT devices. Together with other partners, trive.me qualifies this new decentralized service for the automotive industry.
Also trive.park-CEE ("Chief Executive Electrifier") Heiko Herchet sees in the adaptation of the Tangle an important step in the direction of mobility of the future.
We see the application of new, innovative technologies such as the IOTA Tangle technology for use cases within the mobility industry as an important step in the establishment of automated driving and other mobility services. IOTA and E-Mobility - A match made in heaven?
With its focus on toll-free M2M micro-transactions, IOTA aims to position itself as the standard network for the Internet of Things. Numerous renowned cooperation partners such as Audi have already expressed interest in integrating Tangle. Not a few of them come from the mobility sector. Above all, solutions for autonomous vehicles and smart or e-mobility are in the foreground.
However, market-ready products such as the trive.park app must still be searched for with the magnifying glass at IOTA. Like most crypto platforms, IOTA still needs to iron out a few wrinkles from its technology until it is ready for mass adaptation. One of the biggest challenges is the abolition of the Coordinator, an IOTA Foundation-controlled central hub within Tangle. However, the road to "Coordicide" is already paved - the roadmap stands.
