How do e have such nice people and yet there are still wars? Does that mean all the good people in the world are on steemit while the bad people are left in the real world? If so, are there just half a million good people in the world or does the platform automatically make you a good person? ___ ___ # The onscreen and offscreen personality traits of individuals  ___ ___ ##### Don't be fooled, so many people smile and type nice and sweet words and motivate others, but do you know that often times, the funniest of the comedians are usually not that happy in real life? ___ ___ ##### Imagine that, the person who makes you laugh is often times prone to sadness, similarly a human being is never complete. I have encountered some personalities here on different platforms and I have come to the understanding that some people have created what is called an online personality, usually pleasant and kind to everyone when in actuality they are the opposite. ___ ___ ##### Those who scheme come out and preach the opposite, those who divide, scream unity and I pause and think about the irony of such because when people do not understand that there is a disease called multiple personality disorder which is very serious. ___ ___ ##### No one is asking you to become a faker on the platform because the real you will show over time, when it does the whole things you built around the fake lifestyle will crumble. ##### It is not a race, it is not a competition which should result in unhealthy rivalry, if it is for the greater good then it should be done with 100% goodwill. ___ ___ ##### I once saw somewhere a caption which read "be yourself, everyone else is taken." I underestimated the power of that caption and today, I got a new perspective on it. ##### When you assume another character other than who you really are, over time, you begin to conflict who you are online and who you are in reality and little by little, your real self begins to show. ___ ___ ##### If because John does something and succeeds at it, you feel the need to copy the thing or the attitude without actually working on yourself, you'll end up being an empty barrel making a lot of noise, or better still someone on a race, to nowhere, with no vision, zero understanding and perspective. ___ ___ ##### At the end of the day, we realize that being original is original and being a fake takes us nowhere. When we are nasty to people off the platform and nice when we are online to get upvotes, who are we? When everyone who succeeds is a threat to us, what example are we setting? #sweet and for me, its about being the same offline as online. I talk to more people in real life each day than I do interactions online. I will have to keep a running tally one time. I have not had anyone call me on my online being different from the offline...but, there are lots of people I know who, if you say them only online you would think they are king tut. But offline, they are shy, introverted, isolated and unhappy. I wish that each person online was as happy offline:) I saw a sign here in Toronto the other day "be yourself!" it proclaimed...and there she was, tall, black, lythe, THIN, perfect hair, perfect teeth, perfect dress...hold on! There is only how long one could keep up a charade. Sooner than later the masks would drop off, or in the very least slip, and the real person would be revealed. I marveled at all the nice things people say to each other here. Then I wonder if there is a sort of utopia as it is surreal at times. Maybe, people of like interests interact here. Hard to tell. The lines are a bit blurry between what truly is and what is not. But whichever way we view it, being real rocks; it takes less effort.

I think a lot of who you are depends on how much hope you have in yourself for the future. This is why so many older people become more unfriendly as they age. I am 60 y/o and have had a rough life. I try to be happy and upbeat, especially online, but it is not easy when you have zero job aspects and not enough savings to last as long as you plan on living. Younger people still have dreams and are young enough to start over if they get slapped down by illness, car accidents or whatever. That is a big part of the equation. From what I have seen, most of the people on Steemit are younger. The world is a different place for them.

I haven't given up. That is why I am talking classes again. I bought a HUGE magnifying glass so I can see to make jewelry again and will be opening a store on Etsy any day now. If I had given up, I would have already put a bullet through my brain. It is just different when you are older. There are a lot more things to overcome. Physical disabilities, emotional scars, declining cognitive abilities and so much more. Younger people have (at least most younger people) haven't ran into the physical limitations of older people. That is why so many older people dream of being young again.

@ehiboss, you got a solid truth here. But have you ever come to think of the fact that pretence is relative to reality. We all pretend to get by in life without knowing it. There is no real self anymore. Right now, we are in a world, a time when anyone can be anything at any time, any place with any face and to anyone. People construct realities on virtual spaces and they live out yet another reality in the actual world. This is not because they deliberately want to pretend, it is only because they want to believe this virtual world they have created for themselves. To them, the more they invent new personalities for themselves, the more they go all out to be happy and smiley in a place where people cannot see their downright ugly faces, their ugly homes and ugly relationships, then the more this online reality becomes real and solid for them. To most, social media and platforms like this have been quite an escape route for them to alleviate their innner turmoil and suffering. Even those who exhibit bad characters in the real world come on this platform to exhibit nice traits because they believe they are nice; because they want to be nice. Now, will you call this pretence? No. I would rather call it existing in dual spaces- the actual and virtual spaces. Because really everyone for that matter has been plunged into making up an extra character by the big goons like Zuckerberg, Larry Page and partner, @ned and his team who thought that inventing an extra world would mean a better world. Now that we have found out that extra world or not, it don't make the world a better place, we have to live with the dual personalities we have already taken time out to create.
