The teacher will ask the learners what means they are always using in transporting themselves from one place to the other.

***Step 1: What is transportation?***

Transportation is the movement of people and goods from one place to another. People move by land, water and air.

***Step 2: Means of transportation***

**Olden means of transportation**
In the olden days, people moved from one place to another on foot. Later, they started using horses, camels and donkeys to move from one place to the next.

Today, there are many ways of moving from one place to another. These different ways of moving around are called means of transportation.

**Modern means of transportation**
We have buses, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, trains, ships and aeroplanes. We have three means of transportation.

**Land Transportation:**
Buses, cars, motorcycles and trains travel on land.

**Water Transportation:**
Canoes, boats and ships travel on the sea.

**Air Transportation:**
Aeroplanes travel in the air.

People can get to these various means of transportation by going to the;

- Seaport
- The train station
- The bus stop 
- The airport


***Step 3: Advantages of modern means of transportation***
1. they are mush faster.
2. they are comfortable.
3. They carry many people and goods at the same time, Examples are aircraft and ships.
4. Travelling by them is more interesting.

**Evaluation:**
To ascertain their level of understanding, the teacher should ask the pupils, where those who uses the sea goes to?

1. What is transportation?
2. Mention three ways by which people moved around in the olden days.
3. Mention three advantages of modern means of transportation.
4. Find out from your parents how people and goods were moved about in your area in the past.
