BPO is arguably one of the biggest industries here in the Philippines. It has helped a lot in our economy since BPO companies and employees are one of the biggest taxpayers in our country. 

Contrary to what others may think, a call center agent's job is not a piece of cake. It's more than just sitting in front of a monitor while wearing a headset and speaking English. This job will requires a lot of patience. Americans can be rude oftentimes. They will scream at you. They will insult and discriminate you in the worst possible way.

Furthermore, the working schedule is enough to slowly kill your body. It has a very demanding schedule that requires you to work even on midnights, and yes, even on holidays. So, during Christmas, expect to see yourself taking calls instead of enjoying Noche Buena with your loved ones. 

Many professionals opted to work as a call center agent instead of pursuing their profession because of its promising and tempting salary. It is indeed true that call center agents are well-compensated for their jobs. They get above minimum salary, reasonable incentives and bonuses. Most BPO companies gives a lot of perks to their employees just to motivate them to work harder. 

They're often misunderstood by a lot of people. Some calls them socialclimbers just because most of them tries to live a quite comfortable, and maybe, luxurious life. You can see them on malls, coffee shops and clubs. Little do we know that it's their way to relieve the stress and pressure they get from their work. You see, they don't have the easiest job in the world. They have to endure pressures from their boss while patiently listening and helping irate American customers, while saying sorry eventhough they're not at fault. 

When Donald Trump won as the president of the United States, a lot of people have said that it would create a big impact on the BPO industry here in our country. The fact that our president is not really trying to strengthen our ties with the US is not helping. But personally, I don't think the BPO industry in our country would easily die just because of these issues. Filipino call center agents are known for their work ethics and they have a good-quality works. In addition, American companies save a lot of money by outsourcing here in our country. Our call center agents here have lower rates compared to American agents. They get good-quality work while paying lesser than they should. 

Lastly, BPO industry gives life to our country's economy. It is important to treat call center agents well and give them respect instead of insults (trust me, they have enough of that from their customers). There's no easy job. If you want to get a hard-earned money, then you have to compromise and sacrifice. Whether you're in the BPO industry or not, we're all mere employees working hard to survive and to sustain our family's needs.
