Ah well what can you do? Even though it is an open system and any info on a profile is freely available. Like if you wanted to really know how or why someone carries favour on the blockchain its not that hard to find out if its community, whale support, bots etc

I just think that the lashing out at people comes from a combination of ignorance of how the platform works and just being salty and wanting shit for free or to be easy. I don't know why people join steemit to be so highly strung out and shit all over the community or the economics of it all, like dude, relax. Have fun with it and people who dig your vibe will gravitate to you eventually and support you. 

Also like you say a lot of what goes on on steemit happens behind the scenes on discord and not many people can see the effort being put in to network and to build the community. I don't really pay salty people any mind really, I've had a few lash out at me too, just not worth the effort to respond I let karma handle that for me

Interesting segway into a 'deeper topic'... 

I think I know what you're getting at with high profile 'respected' accounts doing 'bad things' (nb I'm on my phone so I'm keeping this simple its hard to type) - I've got a few on personal 'black list' that I know are just part of early adopter circle jerks for example. 

It's ironic (or is it?) that we can't speak openly for fear of retribution. 

And then there's lots of 'moaners' who do great 'policing' work! (I tend to ID more with them rather than the positive vibe club). 

You should've made two posts - one on this and one on the literal pretty face matter. Which ATM for me is much more interesting, mainly 'cos it's just easier to think about.

There's a great book called 'Honey Money' which demonstrates that attractive people DO have more success. Given that steem exagerates base tendencies you WILL be getting some votes just because you've got a pretty face. 

And I'm sure some of the blokes on here (even the nice ones) give fatter upvotes to a pretty face.

It's only rational isn't it? Higher upvote = more noticed = higher chance of interaction = higher chance of getting some action. To put it crudely. And if all it takes to increase yr chances is moving that slider 3mm to right, well why the hell not?! 

That's just most blokes. I don't see why it would be any different on steem.

I can totally empathise. My own analysis shows that 65% of my own upvotes from women are awarded on the basis of my beard.

Very pretty face, there are more and more visualization in culture as people  have less time to think, life speeds up. Great books and knowledge can be just put off, let alone blog posts

What, someone slutshamed you!? I get that I’m called that for my pictures, but you, that is just ridiculous! 

I’ve often said that even though it definitely doesn’t hurt to have a pretty face, if that is all you are, you are not going to do well in here. 

People are quick to judge a book by its cover, and it’s easier for someone to crasp that *oh you just get upvoted because you are beautiful*, than that you actually worked your ass off for it for months and months. Most aren’t going to do that because they lack the drive and ideas to pull it off, so they feel better about themselves when they try and put down ”a pretty girl.”  

You keep doing you and I can’t wait to meet the beautiful person you are in real life!

Honestly that sounds like someone struggling with the amount they make on their posts, feeling entitled to something that they aren't getting, and ultimately jealous of your success.  Blaming it on how you look is hilarious because I know from being around that you never showed pictures of yourself until the SteemFest contest required it.  I'll say the same thing I said when I recommend you for the competition.  You are a beautiful soul and deserve it.  Fuck the haters, life is too short for that bull shit.

Omg. I can't believe you have experienced this and if I knew who they were I would downright flag the everything out of them. I KNOW what you do for this platform and have always admired you for it, both with and without your face. Don't worry.. it works the other way too... I'm not sure how much validity I have as an older woman here who isn't pretty by whatever standards this society gives us. Dammit. Why am I naive to think it wouldn't happen on this platform?? Because I've seen stuff.. and have been politely ignoring it in the hope the good stuff outweighs it all. A honest and fucking brilliant piece. Resteemed.

I've had to stand up for myself in the past; point a few things out, but I don't like drawing too much attention to anything I do that might be considered *good.*  

I explain this situation like this:

Some just use being *shiny and perfect* as their gimmick.  Of course it's only misleading advertising.  I see right through it.  There are a lot of *public figure personas* mixed in with *real people* here.  Those folks who preach the *positivity* stuff a bit too much for instance, scare me.  *What are you hiding?*  *Do you have bodies in your basement?*

I know it's not that bad, but I've never met someone who's truly happy 24/7, unless they're on pills 24/7.

OH yeah!  My nonsensical article titles and ridiculous thumbnail/cover images.  There's logic behind that, believe it or not.  On the surface it might look like crap, so those who tend to be superficial snobs usually won't click.  They'll just judge the book by it's cover and stay away.  It's like mosquito repellent.  Then those who do click are usually some pretty down to earth and genuine people, and I get to enjoy their company.

We take everything at face value. Okay, maybe not everything, but a lot of things, even IRL, because most of us just can't be bothered to look deeper than that. 
We usually follow the people everyone follows, both here and in other places, we adopt opinions, vendettas, admiration - *everything*. Because surely, if so many have them, they must be right, you know? 
Yeah, not really. But we think that way because it's very convenient.

That being said, you *are* really pretty <3 And as @eveuncovered said, it's easier to find someone to blame - all the pretty gals who get upvotes for it - rather than work for yourself. Surely, that's why *my* blog isn't skyrocketing - it's because all of those blasted pretty chicks getting all the attention. Well, that's how some people think, at least.

I have personally roamed around your blog from maybe the 10 months you've been here and always enjoyed the reads i got around here , the layout , the pics , everything was always very enjoyable and professional looking .. so , there's that. 

 You did tell me in some convo something that left me thinking and actually made me change some directions around here myself , I'm paraphrasing but it goes something along the lines of: 

''Projects and Initiatives can sometimes be empty and sometimes people want to know who is the person behind them , so it's good to focus on that too''

Which is a lesson I took personally and I have also been stepping out a little more , It kicked some other direction in my posting and I started talking a little more about myself . For that I have to thank you. 

 I understand how ''going unnoticed'' until recently bothers you as you have been putting so much work and dedication around here since the early days  . But trust me , it hasn't gone unnoticed .. At least I can talk for me but there is a reason why you were one of the very first people what we reached out with Meno for helpie .. and well , the rest is history :)  . You pretty much set the rules for many of the things we do .. and .. that doesn't go unnoticed. So i just wanted to say that :) .

so , ''Just a Pretty Face?'' .. you are a pretty heart Justine and you have passion in what you do , and that in itself is something to admire and you are doing more things around here that you give yourself credit for sometimes . It's unfortunate how people will just look at the surface of things. I admit that I can do this as well and I'm sure everyone does it or has done it in the past, just an unfortunate reality of being human. I have been however more cognizant of trying not to do that since leaving the ridiculous platforms of Fakebook and the like because of the mindset they are trying to impose on others: just gratify yourself with the surface and move along to other things, don't look deep into anything. I see this behavior so often on here. People commenting on a post with the typical "great words, you present this well" blah blah but they aren't even grasping at what the person is even talking about, just scratching the surface to try and gain a little reward somewhere.

I've unfollowed some blogs lately because of these issues. I thought they were pretty decent on the first couple posts but then I realized that they weren't doing things the way I liked despite having a fair amount of people (er should I say accounts since so many are bots on here..) following them. The number of accounts I follow isn't incredibly high but those that I do, I find have good value in what they are doing be it spread news and information that other sources are trying to inhibit or help others get exposure through all the noise here on the platform. Hell I can't even remember why I started following you but I think that the posts I have seen are enough cause for me to continue following you until I am presented with a reason to stop, which probably won't happen but you never know.
