<p><em>'My house, my car, my yacht.' </em>Status symbols are a prevailing phenomenon around the whole world.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Ideals vs. reality. How important are 'signs of power' for us? How much value do we add to these possessions? And which role do they play in professional careers?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p><em><strong>My no. 1 reason to talk about status symbols: </strong></em>There has been predicted a considerable raise of steem$ price for the next months. That´s why I think we should all get well prepared for spending huge amounts of money in glittering status symbols. Not kidding ;-))</p>

<h1>Signs of power&nbsp;</h1>
<p>Status symbols show our position in ranking lists. Especially during our professional career status symbols have a considerable role - whether or not we are fans of this approach. <em><strong>Appearances and possessions can indicate our hierarchical position, and an appropriate use could even be counterproductive to our personal promotion.</strong></em></p>
<p>Status symbols impress. Always. It´s something 'learned'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>That also works for 'titles'. While Scandinavian people, for instance, don´t set much value on a doctor´s or professor´s degree, German people consider it very important. &nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>'Who wants to be 'somebody' needs to make others believe that he really deserved it' </strong>the German personality coach Claudia Cornelsen stated. Potential leaders need to present themselves as leaders, otherwise it would be hard for them to gain the respective credibility and make others put the leadership past him. 'On the other hand, as a trainee you cannot wear cuff buttons and a handkerchief. For your professional career it´s essential to know these unwritten 'codes' and when to show which type of status symbol' Cornelsen added.</p>

<h2>A status symbol doesn´t need to be an 'in-your-face display of money'.</h2>
<p>Expensive watches and cars are the easiest and most common way to show status. Exclusive holiday destinations could also be recognized as a status symbol. The German coach Cornelsen said: 'Who mentions that he has been to Maldives, shows that he can afford certain things, while the one who talks about his city trip to Tokio demonstrates &nbsp;cosmopolitanism.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>The next job in London surely won´t be given to the employee who is used to spend his holiday at the local camping site.&nbsp;</h2>
<p>While some symbols demonstrate pure possession and status, others are able to reveal our personality. Technical accessories, for instance, can be an indicator for a modern personality. I am up-to-date = I am advanced.&nbsp;</p>

<h1>Status symbols are universally understood&nbsp;</h1>
<p><em>Some signals can be globally understood.</em> Employees who have their own seperated office do have a higher hierarchical position than the ones who have to share their working space with others. <strong>An office which is 'guarded' by secretaries obviously is the chief´s office. </strong>A private parking place right in front of the company´s building surely is much more comfortable than the one at the parking deck a few walking minutes away - it´s obvious that the boss himself does park his expensive car here.&nbsp;</p>
<h1>Add value to your life&nbsp;</h1>

<p>Independently from the real 'need' for status symbols and its definition, we all do have them whether or not we believed in these signs. We all do have an appearance which is something like a window to our personality. As we have learned from the above mentioned theory, especially in business 'we are what we wear'.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Certain things add a certain 'value' to our personal image, and the better we know how to manage these values, the more we will succeed in what we are doing.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<h2>In the meantime.... Me checking some nice yachts at the local marina and preparing myself for the announced steem$ raise in 2017...:-D<br>

I have no problem admitting that the only reason I bought an Audi instead of a Volkswagen is because it's an Audi. Even though a Volkswagen is basically the same car, and less expensive.

But I want my car to have the Audi logo, because reasons.

I have an Audi, too. For the same reasons :-) 
Even though I don´t have much status symbols anymore. When I changed my life 'from city girl to surfer girl' a lot of them felt by the wayside..

For me, it's my car. Clothes, too, to a point. But at the same time, I bought a pretty small and cozy home. I mean, I like it a lot, but it's hardly impressive.
