I was thinking about this question lately. 
Here are the options where I could think on! Feel free to add more.

# Do nothing
The easiest answer and maybe also the stupidest one perhaps is just do nothing. Just forget for x days that you are having a steem account and see what the status is when you do come back!
The big advantage about this is that you will again your full Voting Power. So, if this is your option.
It is probably better to cast a lot of upvotes just before you are leaving. It doesn't matter than if the voting power is drained to 0!

# Delegation of your Steem Power

 @krnel did show us the way. He did delegate almost all of his 40K steem power while going away on a trip! How great is that. I did get a small share of it, and I am still grateful for it!
But this only has added value if you have enough SP, so that it matters! Also you need to be away long enough, because a delegation it always is for at least a week. 
But you have to make sure that you trust the people that they will do the good things with the delegation!
If you are willing to follow his path, remember that it takes 7 days before you get the power back!

Steemvoter allows you to automatically cast votes on selected authors. It is like setting up your own voting bots. I do think that it is created by 
The good things about steemvoter are:
- Who to vote on: you won't be casting upvotes randomly, depending on the steem power you have, you can create free rules. If you do need more than you need to pay a premium service and will allow you to set up to 500 rules.
- How power has to be used: of course you don't want to throw it all out of the window at once. Steemvoter allows you to control the voting power that has to be used, when it will cast a vote. 
- When to vote: if you are after curation rewards, this is an important feature because you can select when steemvoter has to vote for you. Depending on the author this can be different. Probably between 15 and 30 minutes would be a right fit.

I have never used steemvoter myself. Until now all my upvotes are done manually. Probably I will use it when going on a holiday! I don't want to miss, when @stimp1024 hits his jackpot! 

# Curation trail
It is more or like the use of steemvoter, but in this case you are just following the lead of the curator!
He/She is responsible for choosing the right posts to vote on.
I have never participated at a curation trail because you never know where you are going to vote on.
Also most of the curation rewards will go to the leader of the curation trail!
But it is better to do something like this, than to do nothing with the voting power!

# Selling your upvotes via Smartsteem
Smartsteem, do have besides an bidding bot, also a flat rate upvote bot. The upvotes used to upvote the requested posts or done by the one, who are selling their upvotes.
They pay-out 85% of the price they get for the upvote and you will keep all the curation rewards if applicable!
The problem you have here is that, just like a curation trail, you have no idea on what post you will be voting on, but it can be the most rewarding compared with the others!
But SmartSteem does has a small solution for this. People who are buying votes can get whitelisted. According to the quality of their post, they will be ranked.

## Setting up your smartsteem account
They do offer a lot of settings, with which you can control some things.

Like you can see, you can:
- enable/disable the selling of upvotes with a click
- set a threshold: Your votes will only be sold when your have more voting power than is set. As you can see, I did set it on 85% during my family trip some weeks ago.
- how you liked to be payed out. You can set it automatically by x numbers of days or withdraw them manually
- they allow you to give some extra profit to smartsteem
- and most important to make a whitelist selection. By default everybody can buy your upvote, but you have the freedom to change this to the whitelist and trust smartsteem om the qualification of the blog. It goes from 'Good content' up to 'excellent content'.

I have been trying this out. I did sell 54 upvotes when we were at a holiday trip.
This was good for a pay-out of 1.658 SBD and 0.074 steem. My average upvote back then was worth $0.085.

# What will I do when on a holiday?
Well it will be a combination of several things.
For sure I will use steemvoter to support some of my best friends here on the platform.
I probably also will delegate some of my steempower to the @sbcbot.
And last but not least I will also enable the vote selling via smartsteem!
When you are going to delegate it is important to still leave some steem power within your account to not have any bandwidth problems!

What would you approach be?
