Whenever we remember our childhood days, we just can’t help but reminisce how different it was from the life we have all become habituated to live in our twenties. Even up till college, life was pretty good and as soon as you step into the real world after college, you are suddenly hit in the face with one brick after the other and you just don’t know what led to the sudden change. 

It usually happens as soon as you are in your twenties and you realize that the real world isn’t as we had thought it to be and life was going to be way different than we had imagined. What? We have to work to have fun? Who made that rule? This isn’t fair!! Thoughts like these are common when we start out, isn’t it? 

Anyways, there are loads of things that we learn in our twenties. Things that we wish someone had told us earlier about. I think you will agree with me on these points. If you have some more, please let me know.

# 1. You Will Meet A Lot of Temporary People

Remember when we made life long promises of friendships in schools and colleges and we thought that the same friends will be there throughout our lives? That is the first thing that hits you when you start out in the real world. Often we are separated from even our best friends due to work and we start meeting entirely new sets of people. 

And even these sets of people are not permanent as we quickly find out. Changes in locations, jobs or even position at work can lead you to start meeting new people all over again and the ones that you had just started to be friends with remain as memories and nothing else. You will meet a lot of temporary people in your twenties. 

# 2. You Will Have To Make A Lot of Compromises

When you starting out from scratch, and want to achieve something in life, you will of course have to make lots of sacrifices and compromises along the way. You will have to kill a lot of desires for the sake of your overall goal and you will have to trade a lot of fun with a lot of work. That’s just the way it is. 

You might have to do a lot of things that you never thought you would have to do. Most of these could come from lack of enough money. Since you start paying for everything on your own, you start using money for the important stuff first, like you know, food and shelter? 

# 3. There Will Be A Lot of Confusion

The twenties is a really confusing phase of life. You are in the process of choosing a career path and trying to run as fast as possible in the rat race, you are making new friends, you get into new relationships, you get to witness the “true colors” of the world that can leave you disgusted. 


Then there are those tiny things that were never taught at school but you have to do anyways, like doing your taxes for example which is like learning a new language altogether! All these with little to no time. This causes a lot of confusion as you just don’t know what to do, how to do it and when to do it. It can get really overwhelming at times. 

# 4. Responsibilities Will Pile Up

Remember the good old days when your parents would do most of the work at home so that you could just chill on the couch and watch television? Those days are just gone, just like that! They are instead replaced with responsibilities. On top of trying to set your career, you also have to make sure you pay the bills, take care of your health and do all the chores. 

As you age even more, responsibilities pile up even more. If you happen to marry in your twenties, then they will pile up even more! It is the burden of these responsibilities that cause most people to be in stress but this is just a fact of anybody’s life. Sooner or later, we have to take control of our own lives.
