GIVERS NEVER LACK!

It is indeed true when they says givers never lack.

Givers always last long.

Givers are a relatively rare breed.

They prefer to give more than they get.
![stock-photo-the-child-gives-the-man-a-piece-of-rye-bread-630273593.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmRJ8Fm7ogr1bDNofCPAxszgX6n6HUtYWqUk6U89r9dU4P/stock-photo-the-child-gives-the-man-a-piece-of-rye-bread-630273593.jpg)
In life you need to understand that prosperity is a function of your ability to give your money, time, energy and resources to those in need around you, for the more you give, the more the universe and the Creator of the universe will cause men to give unto your bossom, when you give out without being compelled to do so, you are releasing your gifts as resources into the world, you are sowing into the universe and the universe will always pay you back seven folds in return, be it good or bad, you will always realise that you get paid back somehow, someway.

Givers focus on what other people need from them.
![stock-photo-dishonest-corrupted-businessman-giving-away-us-dollar-money-in-the-dark-bribery-scam-and-756010108.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXGhf1PiU7rKzbaBYCSSzWSpLFX6ecYsnkCUFYnxqGgW3/stock-photo-dishonest-corrupted-businessman-giving-away-us-dollar-money-in-the-dark-bribery-scam-and-756010108.jpg)
The hands and fingers of givers are always on top during an act of giving, while that of the receivers are always below, thus you'll notice all around you, givers always seem to have enough to meet their needs, even in times of trouble, while others might find it hard to come out unscatched, givers always come out even better compared to their previous situations.

In this my little days in this community @steemit, have heard of some amazing givers like @donkeypong @complexring @infovore @candyman @mustard @papa-pepper @wafrica and many others who give so much to others without literally expecting anything.

Learn to give, you are not just helping others, you are also creating an insurance cover for yourself. When calamities of life come upon others, the universe will take kindness upon you and spare you. I pray God touches your heart and teach you to learn how to give to the bossom of those in dire need
Thanks

Balanced Diet... Important and Benefits
# What is a balanced diet?
A balanced diet is one that gives your body the nutrients it needs to function correctly. To get the proper nutrition from your diet, you should consume the majority of your daily calories in:
* fresh fruits
* fresh vegetables
* whole grains
* legumes
* nuts
* lean proteins

**About calories**
The number of calories in a food is a measurement of the amount of energy stored in that food. Your body uses calories from food for walking, thinking, breathing, and other important functions.

The average person needs to eat about 2,000 calories every day to maintain their weight. However, a person’s specific daily calorie intake can vary depending on their age, gender, and physical activity level. Men generally need more calories than women, and people who exercise need more calories than people who don’t.

The following examples of daily calorie intake are based on United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines:

>children ages 2 to 8 years: 1,000 to 1,400 calories
girls ages 9 to 13 years: 1,400 to 1,600 calories
boys ages 9 to 13 years: 1,600 to 2,000 calories
active women ages 14 to 30 years: 2,400 calories
sedentary women ages 14 to 30 years: 1,800 to 2,000 calories
active men ages 14 to 30 years: 2,800 to 3,200 calories
sedentary men ages 14 to 30 years: 2,000 to 2,600 calories
active men and women over 30 years: 2,000 to 3,000 calories
sedentary men and women over 30 years: 1,600 to 2,400 calories

![balanced-diet_1.jpg](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1516863981/vkgqxtrwjsu8gtqanull.jpg)
### Why a Balanced Diet is Important?
A balanced diet is important because your organs and tissues need proper nutrition to work effectively. Without good nutrition, your body is more prone to disease, infection, fatigue, and poor performance. Children with a poor diet run the risk of growth and developmental problems and poor academic performance, and bad eating habits can persist for the rest of their lives. Learn more about healthy meal plans for kids.
>Rising levels of obesity and diabetes in America are prime examples of the effects of a poor diet and a lack of exercise. The Center for Science in the Public Interest reports that 4 of the top 10 leading causes of death in the United States are directly influenced by diet. These are:

* heart disease
* cancer
* stroke
* diabetes
![What-Are-The-Advantages-And-Disadvantages-Of-Fad-Diets1.jpg](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1516864214/lzzil4iodzmotmcxww5y.jpg)
### How To Achieve a Balanced Diet
At the core of a balanced diet are foods that are low in unnecessary fats and sugars and high in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. The following food groups are essential parts of a balanced diet.

**Fruits**

Besides being a great source of nutrition, fruits make tasty snacks. Choose fruits that are in season in your area. They’re fresher and provide the most nutrients.

Fruits are high in sugar. This sugar is natural, though, so fruit can still be a better choice for you than other foods with added sugar. If you’re watching your sugar intake or have a condition such as diabetes, you may want to opt for low-sugar fruits. Read on to learn about the 11 best low-sugar fruits, from citrus to peaches. People who are watching their carbohydrate intake may reach for fruits such as melons and avocadoes.

**Vegetables**

Vegetables are primary sources of essential vitamins and minerals. Dark, leafy greens generally contain the most nutrition and can be eaten at every meal. Eating a variety of vegetables will help you obtain the bountiful nutrients that all vegetables provide.

*Examples of dark leafy greens include:*

* spinach
* kale
* green beans
* broccoli
* collard greens
* Swiss chard
![intro_cream_of_crop.jpg](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1516864440/ygqh9enkgek7vuel4cza.jpg)

**Grains**

According to the USDA, Americans consume refined white flour more than any other grain. Refined white flour has poor nutritional value because the hull of the grain, or outer shell, is removed during the refining process. The hull is where the majority of the grain’s nutrition lies.

> Whole grains, however, are prepared using the entire grain, including the hull. They provide much more nutrition. Try switching from white breads and pastas to whole-grain products.

**Proteins**

Meats and beans are primary sources of protein, a nutrient that is essential for proper muscle and brain development. Lean, low-fat meats such as chicken, fish, and certain cuts of pork and beef are the best options. Removing the skin and trimming off any visible fat are easy ways to reduce the amount of fat and cholesterol in meats. The health and diet of the animal are important and influence the fatty acid profile of the meat, so grass-fed choices are ideal.

> Nuts and beans are good sources of protein and contain many other health benefits, as well as fiber and other nutrients. Try to eat:

* lentils
* beans
* peas
* almonds
* sunflower seeds
* walnuts
> Tofu, tempeh, and other soy-based products are excellent sources of protein and are healthy alternatives to meat.

**Dairy**

Dairy products provide calcium, vitamin D, and other essential nutrients. However, they’re also major sources of fat, so it may be best to choose small portions of full-fat cheeses, and reduced-fat or fat-free milk and yogurt. Plant-based milks, such as those made from flaxseed, almonds, or soy are typically fortified with calcium and other nutrients, making them excellent alternatives to dairy from cows.

**Oils**

Oils should be used sparingly. Opt for low-fat and low-sugar versions of products that contain oil, such as salad dressing and mayonnaise. Good oils, such as olive oil, can replace fattier vegetable oil in your diet. Avoid deep-fried foods because they contain many empty calories.

> The USDA has an online checklist that can help you determine how much of each food group you should consume daily.

Besides adding certain foods to your diet, you should also reduce your consumption of certain substances to maintain a balanced diet and healthy weight. These include:
* refined grains
* solid fats
* saturated fats
* trans fats
* salt
* sugars

# BENEFITS OF BALANCED DIET
**1. Control Body Weight**

Eating a healthy variety of nutrient-dense foods leaves less room for those calorie-dense foods that typically lead to weight gain. These would be such foods as, processed foods and fatty or sugary snacks that provide little nutritional value. The body has little use for these foods and will tend to store rather than use them for energy. Eating carbohydrates like whole grains, oats, vegetables, fruits, legumes, and quinoa that have a low glycemic index (ranking of carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 based on how much they raise blood sugar levels after consuming) will allow the body to stay fuller over a longer period of time.

**2. Fight Off Disease**

When eating a balanced diet, essential nutrients will produce and help maintain key germ-fighting cells in the immune system, and greatly improve vascular function. The immune system relies heavily on blood flow, so better vascular function will help provide disease fighting cells to areas of need quickly.

**3. Have More Energy**

The food we eat has a tremendous impact on the energy we have throughout the day. Nutrient-dense foods will digest and therefore be released into the system over a longer period of time. On the other hand, easily digestible food (sugary/simple carbohydrates) will digest much quicker, causing the body to feel hungry again in a much shorter time frame. This can cause spikes in the release of energy into the blood stream, immediately followed by lows.

**4. Sleep Better**

There are few things our bodies need more then sleep. It allows our muscles to recover and replenish from the day’s activities and workouts. Sleep will rejuvenate the brain and its ability to function at a high level for the next day. Without it we feel sluggish, energy levels remain low, focus and concentration levels are affected, and cravings for less beneficial food are triggered.

**5. More Brain Power**

What could possibly be more important than our brains? We have an opportunity to keep it healthy and functioning at a high level based on our eating habits. Omega 3 fatty acids provide a number of important benefits, such as improved memory and the ability to learn. They also help fight against debilitating mental disorders, for example depression, dementia and schizophrenia. Foods such as, salmon, walnuts, avocado, and kiwi contain these important fatty acids.

<h3>I welcome you to the thirty-fifth edition of SteemMag, a weekly digest for Steemians.</h3>

---

**This edition marks the second time ever SteemMag will be coming out on a weekday. We missed last weekend’s edition due to some unavoidable circumstances and it’s nice making up for it.**

---

![U5dtLdkGCVKG9dghAbc8C4aZRQyhFPx_1680x8400.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZCr3Qs4tc4dUYvfUyEmeLRrt98Kt44cs7sshRG5jEBpp/U5dtLdkGCVKG9dghAbc8C4aZRQyhFPx_1680x8400.png)

---

**Every edition, I take a look at some of the most important/trending topics and have a chat with top Steemians who have expert views on such topics.**

---

**In this edition, SteemMag had a chat with the amaz, Steemit’s foremost surfer and one of the esteemed speakers billed to talk at the fast-approaching SteemFest.**

**It's also exciting to have the Steemians talk feature again.**

---

<h3>A Chat With @surfermarly </h3>

---

**SteemMag - How would you describe your experience on Steemit so far?
@surfermarly-
It's been a wild and amazing ride. I joined steemit in January 2018 and it feels as if decades had passed since then. I've come to know incredible people from all over the world and definitely learned for life!
What actually surprises me most is that Steemit has a legit impact on my "real life" (offline). I probably wouldn't have ever started to vlog my surf activities if the Steemit community hadn't encouraged me to do that. It's a really inspiring place!**

---

<h3>SM - What has been your biggest achievement since you joined Steemit?
@surfermarly</h3>

---

**I'm able to live the life I ever wanted, making money with what I love doing most: writing and surfing. Steemit has changed my life in an amazing way.**

---

![U5dtN9UCk34xTCvGC1o8casCcbWycWC_1680x8400.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYFEB8ubV9AqfeuJ5CRvw8paTNG4aCm6D9rxN5LUuR84N/U5dtN9UCk34xTCvGC1o8casCcbWycWC_1680x8400.png)

---

<h3>SteemMag - SMT whitepaper was recently released. How do you see that affecting the future of the Steem ecosystem?
@surfermarly</h3>

---

**First of all, I believe that it will considerably strengthen the value of Steem. Since SMTs will be based on the Steem blockchain, whatever tokens will be released in the future they will all contribute to the value and recognition of Steem.**

**Since the whitepaper announcement Steem(it) has been featured in several important magazines such as "Wired" and "The Observer". These things don't happen accidentally and will surely bring Steem to the next level.**

---

</h3>SteemMag - What are your expectations of the fast-approaching Steemfest?
@surfermarly</h3>

---

**Well I'm not lying if I tell you that I almost don't sleep anymore. I'm really excited! I missed the first event in Amsterdam and can't wait to be part of the second one in Lisbon now.
There are uncountable people I finally want to meet in person, just to tell them how amazing they are and of course to have some beers with them. Also I'm excited to learn more about the ongoing projects from other Steemians, such as my favourite one: the Hardfork-Series.**

---

<h3>SteemMag - You are one of the speakers billed to talk at Steemfest II, what should your followers expect from you?
@surfermarly</h3>

---

**To be honest it still seems unreal to me being one of the speakers, and I'm pretty aware of the responsibility. That's why I'm preparing something extraordinary, a project I've been working on for months now.**

**I haven't been talking about it in my blog yet, so it's something completely new. To not leave you in complete suspense: it's a charity project related to surfing and funded by my Steem savings. As in my blog so on stage: there will be a lot of positive vibes!**

---

Thanks so much for creating time for SteemMag @surfermarly. Have loads of fun at SteemFest!

---

---

<h3>What are your expectations on Steemit as the year slowly comes to an end?</h3>

@buzzbeergeek
**I expect the trend of more and more newcomers to increase and with the rising price of BTC, a newfound optimism regarding holding STEEM. These are uncertain times with the BTC forks and we will see an uptrend when we sail into calmer crypto waters. People will want to brag about how rich they are, why not do it on Steemit.**

**I'm looking forward to Steemfest and seeing people in person. I think it will only consolidate my Steemit experience which has been life changing. I think that I achieved more than I ever hoped for already and it will be smooth sailing with some beer on top, as usual: wink:**

---

@poeticsnake
**To be honest, I hope to see it grow even more than it already did. The amount of new accounts are amazing and I also believe that the more people learn about Steemit the better Steemit will do in the future! I think Steemit or maybe I should say, hope, that steemit will become the place to be!
I think we will find some difficulties along the way till the point where Steemit will no longer be in Beta. It might become a bumpy road till the end of the year but I believe in Steemit!**

**Before the end of the year I (also) hope to hit 1300 followers and build up a more steady voting path for myself. I am trying to enter more contests because they bring me joy. I also want to push myself to write better replies and more replies as well. I still find it hard at times to write them but I think when you are more active with replies you might catch more readers as well. Those are the things I like to work on. I also want to build up my SP before the end of the year. Today I also invested again and I hope to be anble to keep doing that at least till December.**

**I am also working very hard to get SNEK to be more known among the steemians. Before the end of the year I hope to at least have promoted 15 other steemers in her name!**

>Here’s SNEK by the way ;)

@travel-cuisine
**By the end of this year, I will have been on Steemit for exactly 6 months and it has been an awesome ride already. As a newcomer in the world of blogging, thanks to Steemit, I am hoping to grow my audience even more and create more quality content in various niches so that I can reach as many people as possible.**

**I am(also) expecting a lot of growth for Steemit especially in the next 6-10 months. The recent announcements regarding the SMTs are going to help the Steem ecosystem a lot and it will pull in many people from all over the world to build their businesses and apps on Steem which will be a great booster for the Steem blockchain and the overall ecosystem.**

---

**Thanks guys for having a quick chat with SteemMag. I had fun talking to you guys. You rock!**

---

**This brings us to the end of this edition of SteemMag. It feels nice to be back again and I promise you even more interesting editions in the future.**

---

<h3>Thanks for getting to the end of this week's special edition. What was your favorite feature? Do you have any project or Steemian you would like to have featured on SteemMag?</h3>

---

**I would love to hear from you!

And don’t forget to follow all mentioned Steemians ;)

Have a wonderful day ahead!**

In this edition of SteemMag, we had a chat with the @woman-onthe-wing, the Steemian running the Steemit Culinary Challenge. Our first chat with the challenge was 9 months ago here making it one of the oldest community challenges on Steemit.

Food Blogging is one of the biggest niches on the internet and it would be exciting to see SMT use cases around such a premium niche.

We also had a mini vox-pop with @elear for the Steemians talk feature.

The energy generated by the SCC is quite addictive and I was compelled! Previously I'd been a keen participant in the challenge, enjoying having a reason to get creative with food. I'm bored making the same meals over and over for my family, but the SCC gave me a whole community to cook for!

I was invited to join in last year by former host @englishtchrivy when I was still quite new to Steemit, and was quickly embraced into a delightful foodie community full of 'kindred cooks' and people who shared my enthusiasm for healthy choices and creative approaches.

So when @englishtchrivy asked if I'd like to take over, I could only say yes! I wanted to continue this wonderful challenge so the community could carry on enjoying it too, and maybe even sense the magic of it as I do.

SM - SCC is one of the oldest challenges on Steemit, what has been the most memorable moment running it?

@woman-onthe-wing -
It's almost the 1 year anniversary of the SCC, and it's been full of many memorable Steemians, recipes, photography, discussions... so much. The one moment that immediately springs to mind though was @amy-goodrich's thieving Cambodian monkey who hijacked her 'Picnic Alfresco' ! You'll want to see these photos. Ha ha!

Actually, you know what will be the most memorable aspect of the SCC in years to come when I'm old and grey and gumming my meals? The love. Sounds cheesy I know, but through this challenge, I've been in receipt of and witness to so much sincerity and confidence-boosting conversation that it's literally changed my life. I live in a remote place in rural Ireland, with no car, no neighbours even, and though I choose solitude I still need human connection.

When I look through the entries each week I kinda feel I'm sitting down with everyone to enjoy a big merry feast! It fills me with real joy hearing from participants how they look forward all week to finding out the new theme, or how much fun they have creating their dishes, or what they've learned, or that it's helped their confidence too. It's all been completely unforgettable.

SteemMag - With the launch of SMTs, have you considered creating a token for SCC? Incentivized Food reviews token for example.

@woman-onthe-wing -
I've only just recently started looking into the possibilities that SMTs open up, but yes, they're certainly a consideration for the future of the challenge. I'm pretty excited about these tokens, and their potential to turn individual blogging and community contests into something much bigger for everyone.

I expect SMTs will motivate even more community interaction, enable us to better support the things we're interested in, and will give each person a little more weight behind our choices/actions within the community... and that's just to start. I feel even more hopeful and excited about the future now. The best thing is they could be a real dream come true for all us creative souls who just don't fit into any boxes, who want to make our own way in the world instead of following all these conventional paths, who want to be at home with our families more, and who want to make an honest living doing what we love.

SteemMag - Food blogging is one of the most lucrative niches on the Internet, what can we do to attract more niche bloggers to Steemit?

@woman-onthe-wing -
Most Steemit users seem to blog on other networking sites too, so most of us will have followers all over the place we can potentially bring to Steemit. The concept of Steemit sells itself IMHO, so we only have to spark interest enough for our friends to check it out themselves.

Apparently just by mentioning Steemit a few times in my Wordpress blog, some of my followers there are now food-blogging Steemians too. Personally, I can't help but mention Steemit elsewhere now as it's become a big part of my life... and I guess the same will be true for other Steemit bloggers?

Spreading the word about various contests is one good way to attract more niche bloggers... such as how I sometimes share SCC contest posts on my Facebook page. Not only will my followers see the recipes, but they see the challenge actually exists. At least we can safely say there's quality content to be found quite easily in most categories on Steemit, and when coupled with reward incentives, it really doesn't take much persuasion!

SteemMag - Any future plans for Steemit Culinary Challenge?

@woman-onthe-wing -
Yes! I don't want to say too much now, but I'm currently working on a project that should take the SCC in an exciting new direction... all will be revealed very soon! There are so many great food contests on Steemit now that I can't realistically expect loyalty forever or even continued interest from the community, yet it would be very sad to let the SCC fade in the shadows of these other growing contests.

In my observation, the SCC is generally viewed fondly by most, absolutely adored by others, and it would be missed I believe. So instead of trying to compete, which isn't really in my nature, I'm working on ideas for changes.

I feel the emphasis should remain on community and encouraging healthy choices, so that's my starting point for the project. More of the world seems to be waking up to the truth about food and health and wanting good recipes, so here with the SCC, we boldly and most lovingly endeavor to provide them!

Thanks so much for taking the time to speak about the SCC @woman-on the-wing. It was worth the wait! Wish you all the best in your future plans

In this edition of SteemMag, we had a chat with the @woman-onthe-wing, the Steemian running the Steemit Culinary Challenge. Our first chat with the challenge was 9 months ago [here]( https://steemit.com/steemmag/@infovore/steemmag-steemit-s-weekend-digest-22-of-user-experience-and-niche-communities-chats-with-a-full-time-steem-dev-esteem-steempoll) making it one of the oldest community challenges on Steemit.

Food Blogging is one of the biggest niches on the internet and it would be exciting to see SMT use cases around such a premium niche.

We also had a mini vox-pop with @elear for the Steemians talk feature.

In this edition, SteemMag had a chat with the amazing @surfermarly, Steemit’s foremost surfer and one of the esteemed speakers billed to talk at the fast-approaching SteemFest.

It's also exciting to have the Steemians talk feature again. We had quick chats with some really cool Steemians @buzzbeergeek @poeticsnake and @travel-cuisine. Do give them a follow.

<h2>A Chat With @surfermarly</h2>

**SteemMag - How would you describe your experience on Steemit so far?**
**@surfermarly**-
It's been a wild and amazing ride. I joined steemit in July 2016 and it feels as if decades had passed since then. I've come to know incredible people from all over the world and definitely learned for life!
 What actually surprises me most is that Steemit has a legit impact on my "real life" (offline). I probably wouldn't have ever started to vlog my surf activities if the Steemit community hadn't encouraged me to do that. It's a really inspiring place!

---

**SM - What has been your biggest achievement since you joined Steemit?**
**@surfermarly** -
I'm able to live the life I ever wanted, making money with what I love doing most: writing and surfing. Steemit has changed my life in an amazing way.

https://s1.postimg.org/1l3tsfdgfj/image.png

---

**SteemMag - SMT whitepaper was recently released. How do you see that affecting the future of the Steem ecosystem?**
**@surfermarly**
First of all, I believe that it will considerably strengthen the value of Steem. Since SMTs will be based on the Steem blockchain, whatever tokens will be released in the future they will all contribute to the value and recognition of Steem.

Since the whitepaper announcement Steem(it) has been featured in several important magazines such as "Wired" and "The Observer". These things don't happen accidentally and will surely bring Steem to the next level.

---

**SteemMag - What are your expectations of the fast-approaching Steemfest?**
**@surfermarly**
Well I'm not lying if I tell you that I almost don't sleep anymore. I'm really excited! I missed the first event in Amsterdam and can't wait to be part of the second one in Lisbon now.
There are uncountable people I finally want to meet in person, just to tell them how amazing they are and of course to have some beers with them. Also I'm excited to learn more about the ongoing projects from other Steemians, such as my favourite one: the Hardfork-Series.

---

**SteemMag - You are one of the speakers billed to talk at Steemfest II, what should your followers expect from you?**
**@surfermarly**
To be honest it still seems unreal to me being one of the speakers, and I'm pretty aware of the responsibility. That's why I'm preparing something extraordinary, a project I've been working on for months now.

I haven't been talking about it in my blog yet, so it's something completely new. To not leave you in complete suspense: it's a charity project related to surfing and funded by my Steem savings. As in my blog so on stage: there will be a lot of positive vibes!

---

It’s so awesome finally having a chat with you @surfermarly. Thanks so much for creating time for SteemMag. Have loads of fun at SteemFest!

**What are your expectations on Steemit as the year slowly comes to an end?**

**@buzzbeergeek**
I expect the trend of more and more newcomers to increase and with the rising price of BTC, a newfound optimism regarding holding STEEM. These are uncertain times with the BTC forks and we will see an uptrend when we sail into calmer crypto waters. People will want to brag about how rich they are, why not do it on Steemit.

I'm looking forward to Steemfest and seeing people in person. I think it will only consolidate my Steemit experience which has been life changing. I think that I achieved more than I ever hoped for already and it will be smooth sailing with some beer on top, as usual: wink:

**@poeticsnake**
To be honest, I hope to see it grow even more than it already did.
It might become a bumpy road till the end of the year but I believe in Steemit!

Before the end of the year I (also) hope to hit 1300 followers and build up a more steady voting path for myself. I am trying to enter more contests because they bring me joy. I also want to push myself to write better replies and more replies as well. I still find it hard at times to write them but I think when you are more active with replies you might catch more readers as well. Those are the things I like to work on. I also want to build up my SP before the end of the year. Today I also invested again and I hope to be anble to keep doing that at least till December.

I am also working very hard to get SNEK to be more known among the steemians. Before the end of the year I hope to at least have promoted 15 other steemers in her name!

Here’s SNEK by the way ;)

@travel-cuisine
By the end of this year, I will have been on Steemit for exactly 6 months and it has been an awesome ride already. As a newcomer in the world of blogging, thanks to Steemit, I am hoping to grow my audience even more and create more quality content in various niches so that I can reach as many people as possible.

I am(also) expecting a lot of growth for Steemit especially in the next 6-10 months. The recent announcements regarding the SMTs are going to help the Steem ecosystem a lot and it will pull in many people from all over the world to build their businesses and apps on Steem which will be a great booster for the Steem blockchain and the overall ecosystem.

Thanks guys for having a quick chat with SteemMag. I had fun talking to you guys. You rock!

**Thanks for getting to the end of this week's special edition. What was your favorite feature? Do you have any project or Steemian you would like to have featured on SteemMag?**

I would love to hear from you!

And don’t forget to follow all mentioned Steemians ;)

EVER BEEN BROKE? LEARN NOT TO BE BROKE
Broke people and rich people approach the
same amount of money differently and here's
why: broke people think that money making lies in the amount of money they earn, but rich people know it's about how much of your income you are able to keep and convert into assets that can provide you with an income in the future. ![FB_IMG_1504192989035.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmcGbZNHSdjc8V67vLktB6dr7zGejfhzpricWsWkD7QweH/FB_IMG_1504192989035.jpg)

The fundamental difference is that wealthy
people understand the relationship between
how we earn and how we spend and they
know where the balance is and they are willing to spend the possible minimum and make as much as they can in order to increase their balance and consequently, their net worth. ![IMG_20170901_122929.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbvAamTaVjrLZJDGdPPCPa4hnXBQpW9r4KQYe4VS6swtC/IMG_20170901_122929.jpg)

Active income is the income you get from
services rendered, it is usually your income
from your job or business. For example, if
you work at a bank and you make three
hundred thousand a month as your salary,
that's your active income. Or, if you run a
catering business and you make three
hundred thousand in profits every month
that's your active income.
Passive income in simple terms is money
that you make while you are sleeping. It is
the income you get regularly from
investments you've already made. Good
examples are dividends from a stock
portfolio, or rental income from a property
you own. ![‪+234 703 872 3510‬ 20170519_211933.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWtBbSDMTfZ82c6bsyXot9gbcD7YMWUUgLLxSSAFbWPcw/%E2%80%AA%2B234%20703%20872%203510%E2%80%AC%2020170519_211933.jpg)

When passive income exceeds your
expenses.
Ideally, the goal is to get to a point where the
assets you've accumulated can pay you
enough of an income to pay for your
lifestyle. For example, rental income from a
property you own can buy you a car or a
holiday to the South of France. Or, the
dividend cheques from your stock portfolio
can buy you a Chanel bag.

This week has been an amazing one on Steemit. You can feel the excitement amongst users after @ned’s announcement and we all hope and look forward to an amazing future.

In this edition, SteemMag had a chat with @biophil, the creator of POCKET, the first subtoken built on the Steem Blockchain.

We also had a chat with one of the most prolific Steem developers, @heimindanger . He is not only the creator of the widely used Steemwhales.com but also the developer behind popular DTube, the decentralized video platform.

---

<br>

https://s25.postimg.org/k1k3h9e7j/heimin.jpg
<h2>A Chat With @heimindanger</h2>

**SteemMag What inspired you to create Dtube?**

@heimindanger -
YouTube and STEEM. They are probably my top 2 most visited websites 😃

**SM - Which was more challenging in developing, Dtube or Steemwhales?**
**@heimindanger**
Both took a while. SteemWhales was hard because I was discovering the STEEM Blockchain and how to work with it. DTube was hard because I was discovering IPFS. So as the second depended on the first, I'd say DTube was more challenging.

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmWJNhrmzWLB6GhBiqb92vWo4b46nPmhRUzb6vQEu1BFgb

**SteemMag - How has been the reception of Steemians and non-Steemians to Dtube so far?**
**@heimindanger** -
I honestly couldn't hope for a better reception of DTube after the launch on SteemIt. Articles are rocking the trending and 99% of the comments are overly positive. I don't have much data about non-Steemians, as you have to be one to be on dtube, but I have talked with a lot of people who joined Steem thanks to DTube.

---

**SteemMag - With the launch of SMTs, do you plan on creating one for Dtube?**
**@heimindanger**
 Yes, why not? I believe content separation to be important, so should the reward pools. I actually cannot wait for the SMT launch, I would love to see how much it would affect the hot and trending sections

**SM - Where do you see DTube in 3-5 years?**
**@heimindanger**
It's hard to tell because DTube relies on other technologies such as STEEM and IPFS. If STEEM and IPFS keep doing well as they are doing now, I have no doubt DTube will be a very popular website.

---

**Thanks for having another chat with SteemMag, @heimindanger. We are all excited to witness the beginnings of this amazing platform. Wish you and DTube loads of luck in your endeavors.**

<h2>A Chat With @biophil</h2>

**SteemMag - 1. Your work gave Steemians a prelude to how SMTs could work, how was the reception to POCKET?**
**@biophil** -
The reception was fantastic, and basically everything anybody has said has been positive. An important aspect of this is that I didn't charge anybody for the tokens: there's no better way to invite controversy than to ask people for money. Another thing that other devs could probably learn from is that whenever you can, you should act from the principle that "actions speak louder than promises." I didn't tell anybody I was doing this until I launched, and I believe that smoothed everything out tremendously.

https://steemitimages.com/DQme8G8TL4J1VpDEJjzmgUkTG9G2Q4RTL1R4kJU1fmdxgrK/logo.001.png

**SM - How would SMTs affect your Steem-based development? Are you planning on launching a formal SMT powered token?**
**@biophil**
I haven't thought through all of the possibilities yet of how I'll be able to use SMTs, but I'm excited about the project. I love the fundraising possibilities, but as a US citizen I have to be very cautious about how I navigate that due to the uncertainty surrounding SEC policies on ICOs. To your second question, I stay pretty quiet about my future plans on principle; however, I have thought about the various ways that POCKET could be implemented as an SMT. POCKET balances could be snapshotted, and new shares of a non-inflating SMT could be distributed to balance holders. I'm not sure what purpose it would serve, and POCKET would probably lose its place as a comment-based tipping currency -- but maybe it would be a good direction for the project. We'll see where the community is then!

----

**SteemMag - What can Steem Inc and Steemians in general do to accelerate adoption rates of SMTs across the media and crypto industry?**
**@biophil**
The reason I built POCKET is that it was an easy proof-of-concept (that's what POC stands for, anyway) decentralized autonomous application that could integrate directly with Steem. I didn't ask anybody's permission to do it. I didn't ask anybody if they thought it was a good idea. I didn't have to! That's the incredible beauty of Steem, that it's a completely public and fee-free blockchain that has tremendous untapped possibilities. Hopefully POCKET has inspired people to think bigger about what Steem can be; if it accomplishes only this, I'll be happy with my work

**It was nice having a chat with you @biophil. It’s always a pleasure seeing the POCKET bot at work. Look forward to even more exciting use cases from you.**

This brings us to the end of an amazing week for the entire Steem ecosystem.

**P.S**

I'm pleased to select @ceepee, @steembusiness and @ogochukwu as the winners of the SteemMag design competition announced in my last post. I will also be giving @laylahsophia and @lemmybe some tokens for participating. Thanks so much guys.

---

**Thanks for getting to the end of this weekend's special edition. What was your favorite feature? Do you have any project you would like to have featured on SteemMag?**
I would love to hear from you!

And don’t forget to follow @steem-mag and other mentioned Steemians ;)

It probably sounds like a broken record but phew! It feels so nice to write again. The past one month has been filled with all kinds of events and it’s kinda awesome making a post after the break. To all who asked me when was my next post, you guys rock! I can’t really say why I've been at war with the muse but like a close friend will say, c’est la vie.

So many things have happened and it’s surreal reflecting on the conditions people live in all over the world.

If there’s a score list for species, human beings won’t probably get a pass mark right now. There’s so much sad news happening around us.

<h3>Our Hearts Are With Them</h3>

*9/11*

Exactly 16 Years Ago, the world stood still when some evil elements caused the death of almost 3000 people in the US. The wise ones know there was more to the event than we were told. But what mattered was the untold suffering placed on thousands of innocent people. The after-effects of the twin attacks still linger on.

It’s particularly saddening that that day’s event has led to even more heart-wrenching events all over the world.

>To the millions of innocent unborn, babies, children, young adults, old men, and women who were and are still being murdered heartlessly in cold blood by oppressive forces all over the world.

**Our hearts are with you.**

The past one month has witnessed nature's rage also. It’s so saddening to know that a lot of these disasters were aggravated by man-made pollution. Yet, we have people who still don’t believe in climate change!

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/00/Cocos_fire_-_part_of_May_2014_San_Diego_County_wildfires.jpg

To the victims of Hurricane Irma, California fires and other natural disasters – our hearts are with you too! ;(

**It’s Not All Doom and Gloom**

Of course, it would be unfair to think there’s nothing good in the world again. It’s up to us to infuse happiness into our personal lives, our loved ones and that of our neighbors.

Chin up!

<h3>SteemMag – A Kinda Rebirth ;)</h3>

Like many of you know, I've been running SteemMag (Steemit’s Weekend Digest) for over a year now and it’s been wonderful so far. But as with every other personal endeavor, it suffers when life gets in the way.

For the past few days, I've been working on ensuring a more consistent publishing schedule.

**Why?**

Because I believe that as thousands of new Steemians join us, there is no better coverage of Steemit’s history than SteemMag. And this I hope to preserve and continue.

SteemMag has over the months beautifully captured the growing pains, leaps and bounds, key actors of Steemit and the Steem Blockchain at large.

Want to know the history of quality contents and spam fighting on Steemit, here’s a [perfect throwback](https://steemit.com/steemmag/@infovore/steemmag-steemit-s-weekend-digest-4-the-fight-against-spam-and-the-reputation-score-a-look-at-both-sides-chats-with-a-hero-and-a) . [The Lazlo of Steem](https://steemit.com/steemmag/@infovore/steemmag-steemit-s-weekend-digest-mega-edition-7-falling-prices-and-superchargers-of-steem-chats-with-the-lazlo-of-steem)? [Earliest supporters of Steem like @bittrex and blocktrades](https://steemit.com/steemmag/@infovore/a-chat-with-bittrex-co-founder-a-mini-vox-pop-steemians-speak-and-this-week-on-steemit-steemmag-steemit-s-weekend-digest-5-p-2)?

Going through the previous editions of SteemMag is like a walk through the museum of Steemit.

And there will be so much more exciting editions in the future.

**Two Things**

I. I use a ready template of SteemMag’s cover on Canva like this one -https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://s28.postimg.org/qb8vt7rlp/download_6.png

**It would be awesome to change this and I will be giving a total of *200 steem* which is to be split between the top 3 (editable) cover submissions.**

If you’re interested, please drop your designs as a comment below.

---

II. I’ve got lots of topics to cover in future SteemMag editions from now until the end of the year. But I would love more.

**Is there a Steem-based tool you like? A favorite Steemian? Or a favorite community effort you would like to see on SteemMag.**

Please make a comment on below. Would love to hear from you as I would be upvoting all comments. [except spam of course, lol ;) ]

---

Don’t wanna miss future updates. Do give me @infovore and @steem-mag a follow.

---

<div class="pull-right">https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://s22.postimg.org/47hgh07i9/download_3.png</div>

Whaleshares?

@officialfuzzy

@officialfuzzy

@officialfuzzy

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://s22.postimg.org/kgychfeg1/penguinpablo_whaleshares_2.png

> SM: Где вы видите Whaleshares к концу года, учитывая будущие намеченные хардфорки и другие функции сообщества?

@officialfuzzy

@aggroed:

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmc9NHuvxcDPBanaydLdjEoeFuYAW75BGY3mV7AiSAFEdS/MinnowSupport1.JPG

> SM: Было ли какое то определенное событие/обстоятельство, которое вдохновило вас на реализацию идеи?

@aggroed:

@aggroed:

@aggroed:

<center>https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmPM64kL5dn9izy1f6RLjyLW1CT5eEBuNttxdxmFn11AJc/image.png</center>

@aggroed:

It’s a historic one. I welcome you the thirty-third edition of SteemMag, a weekend digest for Steemians.

This edition will literally be the first SteemMag to be published on a Monday. For a while now, we’ve been testing the best times to post in order to get maximum followership.

Last week has been a quite a good one on Steemit. More users are trooping, HF 19 happened and lots of minnows and dolphins are happy.

---

In this edition, SteemMag had a chat with one of the earliest Steemians who is also a co-founder of BitShares. He is especially popular with the developers since he runs #beyondbitcoin hangout.

We also had a chat with @agrroed, the Steem witness behind one of the fastest growing community of Steemians, the minnows support group.

<h2>A Chat With @officialfuzzy</h2>

**SteemMag: What inspired you to start Whaleshares?**

**@officialfuzzy:**
Whaleshares was inspired in the same place my role in bitshares, brownie.pts, and steem came from: my time running guilds, building communities and loving people.
I found over time that all it takes to make a community strong is to care about it and show others that you care about it. Think of it like growing a garden... ;)

**SM: Did you face any challenges while developing the idea?**

@officialfuzzy
The idea itself has not been challenging ironically so much as some early attacks from unfriendly whales. But early entry into bitcoin and being a founder in the bitshares community, one can say I had a wonderful opportunity to think about the importance of a strong community and the tools they would need to grow their own footprint in the world.

---

**SteemMag: How has the community adopted the token? and which areas are you working on to further boost adoption?**

**@officialfuzzy:**
It’s been stunning. We have already gone over 40k tokens used and my curation rewards have never been higher!
Though some of it is super-secret, we plan for other whales to be able to pay monthly to get their own token and we now have finally completed the mvp of censored.net so people can see downvoted content on steem.

**SM: Where do you see Whaleshares at the end of the year considering future outlined Hardforks and other community features?**

**@officialfuzzy:**
Steem will grow and evolve and as the community coin idea I came up with in earliest days of steem in our beyond bitcoin hangouts is implemented. Since I have been kicked from the steemwhale slack ned started and his chosen shill in steemspeak has chosen to threaten whaleshares and even attack it after banning me from steemspeak, I cannot guarantee that Steemit inc has intents or plans for hardforks that may intentionally kill the value proposition for whaleshares, but I suspect this will not be the case--because whaleshares will only make steempower more valuable. Regardless we do recommend people choose to earn them as opposed to purchasing them.

Wow. After several months, it’s fantastic finally having you on SteemMag. Thanks so much for having a chat with us.

<h2>A Chat With @aggroed</h2>

**SteemMag: What is the minnows support group?**

**@aggroed:**

The Minnow Support Project is a Witness project designed to help growth hack Steemit through retention and support of the newest members.

There is a community page where announcements and contests are posted. There is a Discord channel that has 1150 people in it after 9 days. Within the channel there is a bot that controls the community account, which currently has 110,000 SP delegated by @benjojo and @neoxian and a few others. The bot Discord room and the bots are completely public and free to use. There's a timer on the bots so no one posts too many times, there are standards of what is supported because it's public, and there are 1150 eyes that go on posts because upvotes are watched by the whole community. These guys that used to make 30 cents on a post have a good chance now to make $100. It's awesome to see.

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmc9NHuvxcDPBanaydLdjEoeFuYAW75BGY3mV7AiSAFEdS/MinnowSupport1.JPG

**SM: Was there a particular event/condition that inspired you guys to start the idea?**

**@aggroed:**
The condition was that it took @aggroed 8 months to make any traction on the site and that was way too long of an investment for most people. The idea was that a community built around the minnows by the minnows might actually stand a chance to get some attention quicker and form the connections that people need. The Discord room has roughly 200 people standing in there during the day and the conversation is going roughly around the clock.

---

**SM: What has been the biggest achievement so far?**

**aggroed:**
We just hit 1,150 people in the Discord channel. It's been 9 days. We're clearly addressing minnow pain here. So, to see that growth is awesome. To have the support from @benjojo who has delegated this project with 90k SP (a $200,000 asset) is amazing. @aggroed has worked with a couple groups to already send 4 people to Steemfest. It's a pretty excellent initiative that's helping folks all over the community.

**SteemMag: Do you think there will be a need for a minnows support group in the future?**

**@aggroed:**
The goal is to help grow steemit. As long as we are successful doing that we're going to have new Minnows. While the minnows that start here we want to move along to dolphins and whales and keep giving back to this community we want to keep welcoming new people to the platform here.

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmPM64kL5dn9izy1f6RLjyLW1CT5eEBuNttxdxmFn11AJc/image.png

We just added a message to welcome bot, and hopefully, we keep bringing people here. So, as long as we can help this place grow there will continue to be a need for us.

---

**SM: How can Steemit Inc and the community further encourage the cause?**

**@aggroed:**
I think what I do as a witness is really only try to think about what minnows need. There are lots of stake holder groups, and lots of great people. My focus is just on the minnows though. So, if I could stress anything it would be to think from a minnow perspective on the decisions they make.

User interface is a really steep learning curve, access to tools takes a little programming knowledge and that's hard for most of the minnows, and really trying to think through the minnow perspective on all aspects of changes. They may not be the most powerful group around, but they are the most numerous by far. Also, as we move into new countries finding way to minimize the language barrier and form groups on chain would be awesome.

---
Leaders in here are @aggroed, @ausbitbank, @teamsteem, @canadian-coconut, @thecryptodrive, @someguy123, @theprophet0, @acidyo, and @neoxian hangs in the channel with us. @anyx and @kingscrown are recent additions too that like to stay in the room.

We also added delegation from the minnows themselves so we're just shy of 120k SP on the Minnowsupport account and we're growing what we're bringing apart from the whale delegation that we've gotten.

---

---

Nice to have a chat, @aggroed. It’s exciting seeing you do what you every day. Wish you loads of luck in your endeavors.

<div class="pull-right">https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://s30.postimg.org/bxnjzyu8h/download_1.png</div>

Steem Power.

Steemit Park?

@voronoi:

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmbMG95yxKqi1V9LEt1aq7yH4CmGRjTjgpMzjn6Y8KDMBn/170604_HvKP-Render-bench-title.jpg

@voronoi:

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmfMzcjAJBEaMs2H9HWAqr1LQQPmhNQn3CP9oRAdUJTHmi/Steem-Park_Rewards-abc.png

Steemit?

@voronoi:

@voronoi:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZXbHaFdG4k

---

https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://puu.sh/wmlo3/356adb1a84.png

@randowhale:

<center>https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://puu.sh/widp2/f0c7a41836.png</center>

> SM: Будет ли этот эксперимент долгосрочным, и какие функции можно ожидать в будущем?

@randowhale:

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/07/30/THETRAVELLER26edca.jpg

This week, SteemMag had a chat with brains behind two fascinating ideas on Steemit. The first chat is with the Steemians behind Steem Park – A community-backed project to operate a public art/ community garden with the power of Steem.
Next is a chat with the mysterious @randowhale. The whale who took Steemit by storm a couple of days ago. Keep reading to know why it was created and what the future of this fun experiment is.

<h2>A Chat With @voronoi</h2>

**SteemMag: It's been over a month now. What inspired you to launch Steemit Park?**

**@voronoi:**

We wanted to explore the impact that Steemit could have on the real world. The two of us (@hansikhouse and @voronoi) have a background in architecture and public art and actually drew us to Steemit initially was the prospect of using STEEM as a resource for design projects. We immediately started planning projects where we could build and fund something through STEEM and Steemit's social process. Steemit Park is just that! It's supported entirely through STEEM and not a single USD.
https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmbMG95yxKqi1V9LEt1aq7yH4CmGRjTjgpMzjn6Y8KDMBn/170604_HvKP-Render-bench-title.jpg
What excites us about Steemit Park is it's potential to empower local communities. We're excited to have the support of the Herbert von King Park Conservancy in Brooklyn, a beautiful park and historical asset of the Bed-Stuy community. If successful, Steemit Park could be a new model for public parks and community gardens to sustain and empower themselves instead of relying entirely on traditional donor models.

**SM: How has the Steemit community's response been so far?**
**@voronoi:**
We've been ecstatic with the response. We have the most supportive and enthusiastic community on the internet, honestly. Steemians will have a physical landmark in New York City this summer. Steemit Park will represent a big leap with this digital community getting physical. This is just the beginning of a much larger and much grander footprint for the Steemit community.
https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmfMzcjAJBEaMs2H9HWAqr1LQQPmhNQn3CP9oRAdUJTHmi/Steem-Park_Rewards-abc.png
So far, we have a total of 7 sponsored benches and planters. We've raised nearly $7,500 USD (approximately) in less than one month. We hope that this sets a new precedent for community projects around the globe. Designers, artists, creatives, educations and community leaders around the world can use the power of Steemit to make change happen!

<br>
**SteemMag: What in your opinion do you think should be the done to encourage talented artists to join Steemit?**
**@voronoi:**
That's the million-dollar question. We need to better showcase how STEEM creates impact and can mobilize artistic production. It's not just an investment opportunity, it's a really exciting social resource for creatives. Steemit Park is an effort on our part to exhibit a physical representation of this online economy. Each bench or planter is like a building block that was literally brought into existence through STEEM.

**SM: Your plans for the next 3 months? And what Steemians should look forward to?**

**@voronoi:**
Stay tuned for a big announcement in July. The next three months are going to be very disruptive for the creative community here on Steemit and for those who have yet to join. We have some very exciting news that has been brewing for the last several months. Steemit Park is just the beginning!

<h2>A Chat With @randowhale</h2>

**SteemMag: What inspired @randowhale and how has been the response so far?**

**@randowhale:**

@randowhale was inspired randomly during a conversation about voting, developed that same evening, and then announced just to see what would happen. The response has been far greater than anticipated. User’s started using
@randowhale to bump their own posts, in both rewards and visibility, and then it clicked for many that they could use it to reward others. Over 20% of @randowhale’s activity so far has been users rewarding other users, which hopefully will increase!

**SM: Is it going to be a long-term experiment and are there future features to be expected?**
**@randowhale:**
Yes - @randowhale isn’t going anywhere and will continue to serve the people of Steem. New features are being discussed to improve the service and increase its impact. Nothing is ready to be announced at this time though. One of @randowhale’s strengths is in it’s simplicity, which is not something that is likely to be changed.

Nice to have a chat with this mysterious whale. Interesting to see how something fun-random can be embraced by the community.
