We already have advertising.  It's called buying fucking votes.  Why are the bidbots marketed as "promotional tools" and such?  Because every fucking post that uses them is an advertisement, a PROMOTED POST, paid programming, a goddamn advertisement.

I called this mess we're in long before people even knew it would turn into a mess.  I offered solutions early on, the end results and benefits far exceed those of anything anyone else has come up with so far.

All I did was waste my fucking time.  The current promotional system of buying votes can be altered in a fashion that benefits everyone from the passive investor to the organic content producer.  Obviously nobody wants that, can't understand it, or hates my idea because they didn't think of it first.  

Pardon me for venting.  Anyway, I'm sure you have votes to sell to people who do not give a fuck about this place.  Have a good day buddy!

LOL. I said similar when I started. There were even some flagging for the use of affiliate links. I thought it was utterly stupid how some were so staunchly against advertising. Advertising can be annoying as fuck...but if done well, can be non-intrusive. Many barely notice the adverts on the top and side of almost every website. The ones that really annoy are the ones that popup and appear in the middle of an article or force you to watch a video to see something.

Popups and popunders don't even pay that well. You need a massive website for them to pay off. Affiliate earnings that pay a percentage are far better. You gamble on displaying the banner ads and such, but in turn you can earn quite a pretty penny. A portion of that money could then be returned to users, if the terms of service of the advertiser allowed it. You could even set it up so users had control over adverts displayed on pages associated with their blog. You could even let them disable adverts on their blog, if they wanted.

Pay from here sucks for most users TBH. We also don't get paid if we attract users outside of Steem. An extra revenue stream that might in fact be in the hundreds or thousands per month, is significant for many users, and even a small percentage of that income would be quite significant for Steemit, and could be used to actually buy back Steem at low levels, rather than always selling it.

Time To Decouple Steemit & Steem Once and For All By Sunsetting Steemit.com (smooth's suggestion) to a Wallet only or redirect it to Steem.com. We don't want people to confuse the awesome crypto with this shitty interface like so many do. Even coinbase description has it wrong.

I don't think Ads are the answer, I think focus is the answer. And potentially getting outside funding.

The curse of Cassandra, eh? Hopefully the ship doesn't sink.

Most of the comments from that time where very positive and forward thinking. So I don't have the impression that there is a new Aha moment where everybody now see the opportunity with Ads. Even Dclick just recently tried to bring ads to Steem in a decentralized way.
I hope that ned won't hesitate too long with the implementati8n of it.

Steem already has advertising system. But the problem is that it is broken. People don't need to use the promote function. They can just boost posts by using bidbots. I wrote about that yesterday on a musing answer: https://musing.io/q/ocupation/f36bbgc3w?r=profile-littleboy

Good thing we didn't "sully" the steemit platform with advertising, that was a close call..lol ;-)

I'm starting to think this proposal is but a band-aid to the gangrene we see today. Not that it's a lost cause, but its true that more needs to be done by Steemit.inc to keep themselves alive. I neither know what they need to do nor would i try to think of ways..

hi @ats-david

I wonder if Steemit Inc. will ever follow their footsteps. I believe it's just a matter of time before we will introduce ads to Steemit and then they will work on targeting ads, which will result in collecting our data. 

What do you think?

I just visited this post again now that Steemit INC has possibly started moving towards implementing some ad revenue in the last week.   

A lot of us were talking about advertising in different ways so there wasn't so much sell pressure on STEEM.   

Many months ago @lukestokes acted like I was an idiot when talking about advertising on here.   Everything is fine here for him.  This has been a great funding mechanism for him.
